By the way, Ichinoseki City is close to Hiraizumi where Oshu Fujiwara flourished so there are many places and legends related to Oshu Fujiwara clan. “Yanomori Hakkei” in the Yanomori district, Higashiyama, Ichinoseki City is one of them.
Today, I will introduce “Fujitsubo Falls” which is one of Yanomori Hakkei. It’s also known as a famous spot for wisteria flowers, and you can enjoy the view of the beautiful waterfall and the surrounding nature!

What is Fujitsubo Falls?
Many historical sites related to Fujiwara Oshu clan are left in the Yanomori district, Higashiyama, Ichinoseki City.
Among them, eight important historical sites are said to be “Yanomori Hakkei” and have been handed down by local people.
“Fujitsubo Falls” is one of them. This name was given to the beautiful view of the wisteria flowers and the waterfall. The view of the wisteria flowers that is in full bloom in June and the clear and beautiful waterfall is outstanding.
Fujitsubo Falls is the remains of a gold main related to Hidehira Fujiwara, and a tunnel that is said to have excavated gold is left next to the waterfall.

Fujitsubo Waterfall is the remains of a gold mine related to Hidehira Fujiwara.
It’s not a big waterfall, but it has a lot of flowing water, so you can enjoy a powerful view. As you can reach the waterfall just near the waterfall, you can see the beautiful waterfall closer. On this day, the amount of water increased during the rainy season, so the view was more powerful.
The area surrounded by rich nature has a very calming atmosphere. The area around Fujitsubo Falls is also famous as a spot for wisteria flowers. I also want to see the wisteria flowers in full bloom.
Right next to the waterfall is a tunnel that is said to have excavated gold. We can go inside, but on this day there was a lot of water in the waterfall, and the water was flowing into the tunnel, so I couldn’t go inside. Maybe we need boots even on days with low water.
I enjoyed the view woven by the Fujitsubo waterfall and the surrounding nature while enjoying plenty of negative ions floating around the waterfall!
