What is 'Nagashizu'?

Nagashizu that selected as 20 Iwate famous waters is in Fujine, Wagacho, Kitakami city, Iwate.

There are many springs in the Fujine area, so the people who live there used the water for life since long time ago.

Among these, It is said that Nagashizu has a lot of spring water and has never dried up.

In the olden days, there was a waterway of about 18 km from this place for rice cultivation. It is said that it was the origin of the name of Nagashimizu.

Actually, there are sad stories left here.

Once upon a time, there was a princess in Hanamaki Castle. She was in tears every night, because of marriage request that doesn’t fit her feelings. One day, She killed herself in this waterway, hiding from her servants.

It’s a very sad story, but at the time, this waterway was very deep.

Beautiful and clean water still springs out of the bottom of the fish-shaped pond. It’s a very calm place where a time goes by slowly and peacefully.
