What is Genbikei Gorge?
Genbikei Gorge is in Genbi town, Ichinoseki city, Iwate.
It was designated as a national scenic spot and natural monument in 1927.
The emerald green stream flows between this gorge. The length of this gorge is 2 km. There are an oddly shaped stones, gigantic boulders, potholes, abysses and waterfalls.
In particular, potholes created by the flow of water have been developed. It is geologically valuable.
You can also enjoy the beautiful view of the four seasons at Gebikei. In spring,cherry blossoms decorate the gorge, The gorge is surrounded by a refreshing feeling in summer, In autumn, you can enjoy the stunning autumn leaves, you can see a snowscape in winter.
Masamune Date who lord of Sendi Clan said that Matsushima and Genbikei Gorge are two major scenic spots of my territory.
