There’re a lot of wonderful places in Iwate, so I want many people to come to Iwate.

By the way, the approach to shrines and temples has a mysterious atmosphere that is a little different from everyday life, and each place has different characteristics. Do you have a favorite place where you can feel an extraordinary atmosphere?

Today I will introduce “Soshoji Temple” in Matsukawa, Higashiyama, Ichinoseki. Giant cedar trees around 450 years old line up along the approach to Soshoji Temple, and forming a beautiful cedar avenue!

Soshoji Temple” is a temple of the Soto sect located on the mountainside of Matsukawa, Higashiyama, Ichinoseki.

There are over 30 giant cedar trees around 450 years old on the approach, and they form a beautiful avenue of cedars. There is also a giant fir tree that is said to be 570 years old at the gate of Soshoji Temple, and you can see its magnificent appearance.

These cedar trees and giant fir tree are designated as tangible cultural properties of Higashiyama Town, so they are also important cultural properties that color the approach to Soshoji Temple and engrave a long history in their appearance.

The giant cedar trees that line the approach to Soshoji Temple form a beautiful avenue of cedars, and the scene is like a green curtain that surrounds the approach. Such the avenue of cedars delivers soft light to the approach while softening the glare of the sun.

Fluffy moss grows on the ground where the sunlight shines through the trees, and it seems as if a green carpet was laid on the approach road. If you walk while checking the feel of the approach, you can feel the softness of the soil and moss, which is different from asphalt.

The mysterious atmosphere of the approach to shrines and temples, which is not found in everyday life, is good. Recently, I have come to feel that it is good to worship while feeling the characteristics of the shrine and temple.

The giant cedar trees on the approach to Soshoji Temple are about 450 years old. I think that the trees that have spent so many years that I can’t imagine have engraved various stories in their appearance. The beautiful cedar avenue that even feels such dignity seems to gently wrap and watch over the worshipers.
