The Kesen River flowing from Sumita Town to Rikuzentakata is a clear stream that represents Iwate, and the water is highly transparent, so it is also known as a rich repository of river fish.
Today, I will introduce “Kesen Otaki” located in the upstream of the Kesen River.
The view of clear water flowing down the rocks is beautiful, and it is a comfortable place where you can feel the coolness even in summer.

What is Kesen Otaki?
The Kesen River is a clear stream that represents Iwate, which flows from Sumita Town through Rikuzentakata City into Hirota Bay. The water of it is highly transparent, and it is also known as a rich repository of river fish such as ayu, char, yamame trout.
“Kesen Otaki” is located in the Kamiarisu area, upstream of the Kesen River. The height of this waterfall is 4m, but the waterfall width is wide, so the clear water that flows like slipping water has a glamorous beauty.
There is also a waterfall called Kotaki which located in just upstream of Kesen Otaki. This is also spectacular!
There is “Rokan Cave” at the upper reaches of Kesen Otaki, where you can enjoy a walk through the limestone caves and enjoy the beautiful view of “Amanoiwato Waterfall”.

This is the view of Kesen Otaki from below. Although it is not a waterfall with a large head, so it is not so powerful, but the appearance that the waterfall is wide and the clear water flows smoothly is glossy and beautiful. Negative ions overflow from the waterfall, and the trees around it create shade, so you can feel comfortable even in summer and feel cool.
