In Iwate, there are really many places where clear water flows. It’s a very calm place just to look at.
Today, I wrote the summary of the best Iwate water introduced so far.

【Iwaizumi】Ryusendo Cave
Ryusendo Cave in Iwaizumi is one of japan’s three most famous stalactite cave. It was designated as a national natural monument in 1938 along with the bats that live in this cave.
Although undisclosed, the depth of the 4th underground lake is 120m and it is the deepest underground lake in Japan, and the 3rd underground lake that follows is also proud of Japan’s leading depth of 98m. Also, these underground lakes have the world’s highest transparency and are called “Dragon Blue”, and their mysterious beautiful appearance is a must-see.

【Morioka】Daijisimizu・Seiryusui
Seiryusui is in Natayacho where the historical cityscape is left. It’s selected as one of the 100 famous waters of Heisei along with Daiji Shimizu.
Many people use it for daily life Since the Edo period. It is said that it was named Seiryusui, due to the legend of Seiryu that remains at Gidaji Temple.
But now the source of Seiryusui is dry and the cause hasn’t been traced. I hope that the original beautiful appearance will be restored as soon as possible.

Seiryusui is in Natayacho where the historical cityscape is left. It’s selected as one of the 100 famous waters of Heisei. I will introduce Seiryusui.
【Morioka】Nakatsu river
Nakatsu River flows through the center of Morioka and is also a place for citizens to relax. The transparency is so high that the bottom of the river can be seen, and it is a clear stream where salmon run upstream.
It can be said that this is one of the symbols of peace in Morioka City, as many people spend their relaxing time along the Nakatsu River on holidays.
【Ichinoseki】Sukawadake Hisui Bunanomegumi
Sukawadake Hisui Bunanomegumi is high quality water that is selected as one of the 100 best waters of Heisei era in Japan.
Sukawadake has been popular as a hot spring resort since the Edo period. It is said that there were people ‘Goriki‘ carrying a luggage and a visiter to a hot spring resort on their backs. The best water “Hyakko water” that moistened their throat is the origin of Sukawadake Hisui Bunanomegumi.
It had not been found for many years, but it was discovered in 2000 when a people searched based on the legend that remains in this area.

It is said that when shogun Sakanoueno Tamura Maro went to Kiyomizu Temple, he stopped at this place and drank water Over 1000 years ago.

Among these, It is said that Nagashizu has a lot of spring water and has never dried up. In the olden days, there was a waterway of about 18 km from this place for rice cultivation. It is said that it was the origin of the name of Nagashimizu.

【Kitakami】Nitobe Kannon Sen
Nitobe Kannon Sen is located within the precincts of Nitobeji Temple, and clear water springs from the bottom of a large tree.
A part of Shimo Ezuriko in Kitakami City is called “Suzu no Sato”, so there are about 70 springs. Those clean water is used to grow Seri. It cultivated in Ezuriko is called ‘Ezuriko Seri‘ and they have a particularly crisp and aroma.
Nitobe Kannon Sen is an important place especially for the cultivation of Seri.

Also, there are many wasabi fields around this place that use this high-quality water. In fact, the Miyamori district is the best production area of wasabi in Tohoku.

【Sumita】Rokan Cave
Rokan Cave in Sumita town, Iwate is a limestone cave with a total length of 4,000m and a height difference of 115m. you can see the mysterious view created by nature.
A dome-shaped space with a circumference of 50m and a height of 50m is located 880m ahead in this cave. And there is Amanoiwato Waterfall that One of the highest waterfalls in Japan as a waterfall in a cave.
Rokan Cave is also one of a film’s location of The Village of Eight Graves.

Fudo waterfallFudo waterfall in Ofunato city consists of two waterfalls, Odaki on the right and Medaki on the left. Fudoson is enshrined in the shrine between the two waterfalls, so the name of this waterfall was named after that.
Odaki that flows down from a height of 15 meters is called ‘Shiraito Falls’ because of its mysterious quietness. so It’s a famous scenic spot in Ofunato.
This area is surrounded by large cedar and conker trees, and the rocks are covered with moss. That’s way you can see a rich nature there.

Shizu no wakkutsuShizu no wakkutsu is in Rikuzentakata city. It was selected as one of the 20 famous water of Iwate in 1985.
It is said that 17,000ℓ of water is gushing out from here everyday. The temperature of water is almost the same throughout the year. The water never dry up until now
You can also see ‘Baikamo’. It’s water-crowfoot that grows in a beautiful and quiet river.

In the past, The people who go to worship Dewasanzan purified their bodies with this water.
It is said that the amount of spring water is 21,000t a day. It is used for town water supply.
You can see Baikamo as well as Shizu-no-wakkutsu.
